Wi-Fi handset market share Q2 2009

According to a recently released report by In-stat, while Apple and Research In Motion gained share in the Wi-Fi handset market over the past year, Nokia has lost share.

Though Nokia is still number one vendor for dual-mode smartphones (Wi-Fi and cellular), its market share dropped to 35 percent in the second quarter, compared with 50 percent in the same period a year ago.

Gain or loss in Market share of the players:

--Apple__________ From 3 percent in Q2 2008 to 20 percent in Q2 2009. A gain of 567 percent or a near 6 times increase. Apple is the top market share gainer in this segment.

--RIM__________From 17.6 percent in Q1 2009 to 15.7 percent in Q2 2009. A Quarter-on-qaurter loss in market share of 11 percent.

--Samsung___________Showed a slight dip in market share in Q2 2009 over Q1 2009. --------
