It’s the Vodafone.
According to the data from an industry body released on Friday, Vodafone India has so far gained the most following India's transition to MNP, which allows mobile users to retain their existing numbers even when they switch carriers.
But, mobile number portability (MNP), launched in Punjab in late November and nationwide from Jan. 20, didn’t prove to be a game changer.
According to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) data, less than 5 million or 50 lakh subscribers, or less than 1 percent of the country's total customers, had opted for MNP.
In mumber terms, Vodafone and Idea led the pack. Out of those who oped for MNP, a net 1,92,761 customers switched to India's third-largest mobile carrier Vodafone Essar, while sixth-ranked Idea Cellular was next, with net gains of 1,50,789 customers.
Top mobile operator Bharti Airtel gained a net 148,215 customers in MNP, but No. 2 Reliance Communications was a net loser of 306,417 customers, data showed.
