With National Consumer Protection Week underway, New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman shared with New Yorkers, A List of Top 10 frauds, New Yorkers faced in 2010. The list, compiled by Internet Crime Complaint Center, a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center on the basis of nearly 15000 complaints received by them in 2010; with the most complaints (20.1 percent of all complaints) made due to non-delivery or merchandise or payment. Notably, 7,024 complaints or nearly half of all complaints related to Internet privacy issues, spyware and other consumer
The other complaint categories in the top ten:
(2) Credit - 5,455 complaints (Debt collection, credit card billing, debt settlement)
(3) Consumer-related services - 3,817 complaints (security systems, restaurant/catering services, tech repairs)
(4) Automobile - 3,661 complaints (buying, leasing, repair, service contracts, rentals)

(10) Telecommunications - 1,202 complaints (phone cards, cellular services, pay-per-call)
With most businesses already present or are opening their presence on internet, the above list is a must read for all people, irrespective of the country they live in. As once commerce gets internet as its vehicle, things become very even. Although a few frauds in the list, like Mortgage, credit seem to be more US specific than any other country, caution should be exercised by any web user, who buys online. As courtesy Web, concepts, no matter if fraud, proliferate very fast.
Another reason to get oneself aware of the frauds happening in any part of the globe is that, although people in any part of the world are facing similar frauds; not all countries collate adequate data by having reporting cells.
