Google announced today that Google Maps for both mobile as well as the desktop version will be getting live public transit updates. This will help the riders find out when their rider is going to arrive at the closest stop. Google has teamed up with a few public transit agencies to display the live transit data in six cities:- Boston, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Madrid, and Turin.
Smartphone and desktop users now can simply load the Google Maps and click on a transit station or plan their fastest transit route. They can quickly find out if there is any delays or alerts related to a trip with live departure times which will be displayed with special icons.
Google said that it is working with various public transit partners to expand this service into more cities. Google specified that for the mobile version, the service is currently available in the latest version of Google Maps for Mobile using Androids 1.6 or higher. But it did not mention whether this service is available for iOS users or not.
