Iran on Monday unveiled a new indigenously built cruise missile, named Qader” (Able). The missile which is reported to have the capability to strike at warships at a range of 200 km, including U.S. bases in the Persian Gulf region, is highly destructive against coastal targets and warships. Cruising at a low height with high precision in acquiring its targets are some of the key attributes of the relatively lightweight Qader missile, says report. The news is being seen with great concern in US.
The cruise missile, designed and developed by Iranian scientists, and meant primarily for sea and coastal targets, was put on display at a ‘defence marine show’ inaugurated by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, reports Iranian TV.
On the same Defense marine show, the Iranian president also made public a new torpedo system called “Valfair”, fired from submarine.
Both the weapon systems were tested successfully.
