ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 is Light on System | Review

ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6's overall performance presents a reliable security option, with fast and powerful detection of malware.User Interface not user Friendly, even for experts.

I installed ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 about a month ago. And now I think I can share with you, my overall estimation of ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6

First, a bit on the Installation Process:

It's quite simple. After the purchase you receive a Download Now link. This download link will save a small installer file to your desktop. After that you open (double-click) this file, while the net is connected and an installer will open to proceed with the rest of 63.7MB download. The installation process is neither too fast nor too slow. But compared to Norton and other, the installation takes time.

According to CNET, the installation could have been more smooth, if some common sense options like checking the box of -- Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) protection activation -- by default is turned On. In fact, PUPs, which are a security issue, ought to be looked for on the first scan automatically, and then ask you if it's a scan you always want.

But to save the situation, the registration for ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 is great. The entire process can be completed from within the suite--Yes no need to visit the company site on browser. Also, there's no reboot required after the installation.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 is Light on System | Review

The first thing you will notice about ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6, post installation is that it's Light on System. That's it doesn't slow down the PC and you can multitask even when the antivirus is doing the Full system scan.

CNET also says the ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 is a basic antivirus suite that's light on your system and tough on malware threats, and I agree with them. With most PC being connected now, this is a virtue.

Just Like the Version 5 of ESET NOD32, the ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 takes ahead the emphasis on generic detections and the now-commonplace reliance on both cloud and locally stored detections. ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 betters version 5 in the ancillary features. If you buy a premium antivirus, you do want to see it feature rich.

ESET is known for releasing most virus definitions annually. This is a good thing as in Security, Being Informed is Being Safe. The System on which I installed the NOD32 Antivirus 6, had previously been protected by premium offering from some other antivirus company. When I run ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 for the first time, it managed to detect three threats.

Interface

I found it not very user friendly. For the very first scan, I took some wrong clicks, before reaching the destination. That apart, animated icons (a circularly moving dots), showing progress of scan, initially confuse the user, who takes the icon as representing delay in processing.

According to CNET,
The interface opens to a window indicating your security status. The default is colored green and labeled Maximum Protection, which changes to red and a warning when core security features, such as Network Protection, have been disabled. The center pane doesn't indicate this very clearly, but the plain text Maximum Protection labels that tell you which parts of your computer and activity are protected are actually links. Click one to drill deeper into your settings, toggle features, and gain more granular control over your security.
The left nav lets you access other features, including Computer Scan, Update, Setup, Tools, and Help. To the interface's credit, each tab's layout is kept similar, and there are helpful mouse-over tooltips that help clarify things like the differences between default scans, but key features, like the Advanced Settings window, are hard to find.
What the CNET has said is more or less the case. I too found the interface irritating at times, with multiple unorganised paths to achieve the same task. That apart, in an effort to make the interface simple, EST has made the interface so redundant (and in turn made simplest of features and steps harder to find) that, it takes time to decide the shortest route forward. That apart the lack of appealing iconry/animations, makes the user feel, whether the suite is actually protecting the PC or not. A perception, which is of course false. As ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 does provide a decent security.

Features and support

1) ESET NOD32 6 is feature rich. Having features one finds in top offerings. The features are extremely well implemented. The lack of many modern ancillary features may be an issue, keeping in view the price.

2) Two Default Scan Modes: "Smart Scan" and a "custom scan"

ESET NOD32 6 antivirus and antispyware engines not only detect threats, but prevent the host files from corruption.

Overall it's a solid, secure choice, with low false positives and a light touch on your computer's performance. ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 is an award-winning antivirus.
