After spending the last few years at Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi, exec Hugo Barra will soon be joining Facebook as VP of Virtual Reality (VR) and will be leading Facebook's VR efforts, including the Oculus team.

Barra announced his departure from the Chinese smartphone maker last week, and has returned to Silicon valley to join Facebook. While Mark Zuckerberg has announced Barra's arrival in a Facebook post, Barra has confirmed the news. He also quoted Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun quote,

Facebook plans to use Hugo Barra's experience at Xiaomi in Beijing to bring innovative devices to millions of people. Notably, Barra was instrumental with helping Xiaomi introduce Mi VR headset.

With Facebook's acquisition of Occulus in March 2014, Facebook ventured in VR space. Recently it announced its intent to invest over $3 billion over the next ten years to gear up its VR efforts.Occulus "Rift" headset has got great response; with “Santa Cruz” a wireless Rift headset prototype in pipeline.
