Beware of "Who Viewed Your Facebook Profile" scam on Facebook !

First a fact or a Disclaimer:

Facebook does not show "Who Viewed Your Facebook Profile", just as Orkut does.

This is what Facebook said, when asked , has it started the new feature that tells users who visited their profiles:

"No, Facebook does not provide the ability to track who is viewing your profile, or parts of your profile, such as your photos. Applications by outside developers cannot provide this functionality, either.”

------------

What is the issue?

That said, taking advatage of the absence of such a feature, which in all probability many Facebook usesr may be searching, some bright minds are running a scam on Facebook.

The "Who Viewed Your Facebook Profile" app, which is coming with a bunch of different names; but promising one sam thing -- to show you who has viewed your Facebook profile, is a scam and apparently one that is being passed around as a hot item through social media right now.

-------------

Why are such apps called a scam ?

The reason is simple— The official Facebook statement says that it does not provide any such tracking, it-self; nor any outside developers are allowed to provide this functionality either.

Although a possibility of some very bright minds actually providing such a functionality cannot be ruled out; but when apps like the ePrivacy, or Profile Watcher V2.1, or ProfileSpy app are embraced they are actually not letting you see who has viewed your Facebook profile, and for very good reason: that functionality simply does not exist on Facebook at the moment.

----------

What is the gain for those running such Apps?

By baiting about a functionality, which Facebook users may be silently demanding; such apps are spereading fast – The app requires too much information upfront (only then you are allowed to use it)- you are recommending them to all your contacts before even getting access to it. In short, give infrmation before you use model is working excellently to their advantage.

-----------

What action Facebook is taking ?

Applications that claim to give you this ability will be removed from Facebook for violating policy.

----------

What you should do if you have already become a victim of this scam?

Go to your privacy settings and look for it in the applications and websites section - delete them and change your password.

Caution: Twitter usesr beware this scam is trending on Twitter too. So avoid it. --------
