MIT researchers make Kinect Track All Ten Fingers Simultaneously

Microsoft made Kinect to pretty much avoid tracking of individual fingers in favor of full-body tracking. But bright minds think a lot for motion sensing future depends on finger tracking for more delicate controls.

MIT's Robot Locomotion Group and Learning Intelligent Systems teams took it upon themselves to show that the Kinect can absolutely recognize ten fingers and some relatively minute gestures.

The video manages to show some basic photo manipulation using finger and hand gestures. Picking photos with two fingers, stretching with both hands, and shunting out of frame with a fast sweep of the hand. Most polished kinect hack out so far. Look at the man finger gesturing and the space above him, the outcome of his finger motion is visible there.
