According to recent TRAI data, Telecom operators(15 in number) added a total of 18.98 million or 189.8 Lakh mobile subscribers to country's mobile user base in October 2010.
India's largest telecom company, Bharti Airtel , added the highest number of mobile subscribers in October, more than 3 million subscribers, regaining its position among the top three telcos in terms of number of subscribers added.
Bharti added more than 3 million subscribers, leading the list of 15 telecom operators that together added more than 18.9 million subscribers in October. Bharti is followed by Vodafone Essar and Unitech respectively.
Overall Mobile subscriber base picture of the country: Mobile subscriber base increased to 706.69 million at the end of October this year from 687.71 million in September, an increase of of 2.76 Percent.
Wireless Reach or Tele-density: That's the percentage of population that has a mobile phone, rose to more than 59.52%.
Landline subscribers continue to drop: The countrywide landline subscribers dropped to 35.43 million in October from 35.57 million a month before. In Lakh terms, from 355.7 lakh in end september to 354.3 lakh in end October 2010.
Public sector operators BSNL and MTNL continue to hold a bulk of the market with a combined share of 83.3% (the share largely due to Landline subscribers).
