Seagate has just announced Barracuda XT, the company's first 3-terabyte 3.5-inch hard drive. The company claims it to be the easiest-to-install model on the market.
Taking care of of the 2.19 TB Limitation:
Media’s larger than 2.19 TB in size, face a limitation. The limitation is – the storage in excess of 2.19 TB can’t be accessed to used, unless updated hardware and a post–Windows XP operating system is present.
To take advantage of the full storage, the device needs updated hardware and a post–Windows XP operating system.
Storage makers like Western Digital, Asus have overcome this hardware limitation, with their own fixes. Which are limited in their implementation, But Seagate claims to have conquered this 2.19 TB limitation. The company claims that it has found a solution that lets everyone, on every operating system, to use the Barracuda XT.
Seagate’s solution is Seagate is the Seagate DiscWizard software. The company is including it with with every Barracuda XT.
The Seagate DiscWizard software, lets users access the extra space by essentially turning it into a virtual drive. In press release, the company puts the software, which is available as a free download on Segate's Web site as, "makes it simple to configure the computer operating system and device drivers to access the full 3TB of capacity on legacy systems using Windows XP and PC BIOS and on personal computers equipped with newer versions of Windows."
Other highlights of the new 3-TB Barracuda XT Hard Drive are:
1) Also supports high-speed 6-Gbps SATA data connections
2) Built in 64MB cache for optimizing burst performance
3) Has a rotational speed of 7,200 rpm, which is a standard for a full-sized desktop hard drive
