It’s good to find the number of 3G subscribers different operators are gaining in their initial days of existence. It gives a user an idea which 3G service provider to go for.
Telecom service provider Idea Cellular, today announced that it has enrolled one million or 10 Lakh, third generation (3G) users within the first month of launch in India.
Idea who has started its operations in nine cities in March this year, is happy with the numbers, and plans to launch the service in 10 new towns every day for the next one year to extend the experience to 50 per cent of the existing subscriber base with the latest 3G services. In simpler words this means that Idea's 3G services will progressively grow to cover 750 towns by mid 2011, and 4,000 towns by the end of FY12.
At present, Idea covers over 400 towns (both Tier 1 and 2 cities) with 3G network across the country,
According to the press brief, trends revealed so far indicate high uptake of Wireless Broadband data by existing 3G Handheld users, who are now being provided superior quality voice, text and data services – which include High Speed Internet browsing up to 21.1 Mbps, video calling, mobile TV, Idea application Mall, and many more applications on the 3G platform.
Although numbers can give a fair idea of which provider to approach, knowing a bit more about 3G in India is good too.
