India adds 1.11 crore GSM subscribers in April

India has added 11.11 mn (or 1.11 crore) new GSM subscribers in the month of April 2011. India's GSM subscriber base grew by 1.95 per cent in April, of which Bharti Airtel alone signed up over 2.41 million customers.

Overall, the total number of GSM subscribers in India has now crossed 580.67 million (58.67 crore), compared to 569.56 million (56.96 crore) at end of March, according to the data released by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

Bharti Airtel lead the GSM marrket, with a 28.35 per cent share. In number terms this comes out to be 164.61 million (16.46 crore) subscribers.

Vodafone which added 2.4 million (24 lakh) subscribers in April month, is number two, with a total of 136.98 million (13.69 crore) subscribers.

Idea Cellular with 2.45 million (24 lakh) new addition in April, is number three, with a total of 91.95 million (9.2 crore) subscribers.

State-run telecom companies Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd added 689,361 and 14,633 customers respectively, taking their total user base to 87.14 million (8.71 crore) and 5.21 million (52 lakh).

New telecom operator Uninor added 1.45 million (14.5 lakh, taking its total subscriber base to 24.24 million (2.42 crore) subscribers. --------
