Number of Twitter accounts has crossed the 300 million accounts threshold, according to a Twitter-tracking site called Twopcharts. Further, Twitter is currently adding 9.1 accounts per second or 786,240 accounts a day.
But there is a difference between 'Twitter users' and 'Active Twitter users'. Those who use the service with some frequency ot those who open an account and forget. And in this metric Twitter fails. In March 2011, Business Insider has reported that Twitter has less than 21 million "active" users.
But good thing is, Twitter is not blind to this fact, hence it’s working patiently to make the product easier to use and more friendly to people who want to consume media instead of creating it.
