Twitter launches automatic link shortening on Twitter.com

Delivering what Twitter users have been asking for (that’s what Twitter guys say) Twitter has just introduced – automatic link shortening on Twitter.com.

The working of this automatic link shortening feature is simple. Just paste a link of any length into the Tweet box on Twitter.com (a user doesn't have to worry about fitting a long link into the 140 character limit); compose your Tweet and when you hit the “Tweet” button, twitter will shorten the link so that it only takes up 19 characters.

Apart from being able to post long links simply and instantly on Twitter; the shortened version of the original link, will show people the site the link points to. If users click on links that are reported as malicious, Twitter will direct them to a page that warns them.

Unfortunately, the automatic link shortening feature is not for those who use link shortening for analytics purposes as well. To these twitter users, twitter suggests continue using third-party link shortening services. --------
