EA Acquires PopCap in a Billion Dollar Deal

Time killing games can be real money mincers for game makers of late; as mobile connectivity, tablets , smartphones, and a big rise of social networks mix has made time killing really effective. People can play games on their devices almost anywhere, just to pass time more effectively.

That’s why PopCap has been acquired by Electronic Arts, in a billion dollar deal. EA announced Tuesday that it will buy PopCap for $650 million plus stock and earn-outs, which altogether could add up to as much as $1.2 billion. The deal is expected to reach its desired end in August.

EA hopes that PopCap’s expertise and existing games, which includes very popular games like Plants vs. Zombies and the Bejeweled, will speed up the company’s drive towards a $1 billion digital business. EA’s global studio and publishing network will help PopCap rapidly expand their business to more digital devices, more countries and more channels, said EA’s CEO John Riccitiello.

For PopCap, the goody for the deal is -- Of course a billion dollar (Only fools throw away a money that big).
