Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay may open a New York campus

India’s premier technology institute, the Indian Institute of Technology may soon add another first to its name.

According to reports, the Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Bombay, could be the first Indian institution to have a campus in the United States. IIT Bombay has already submitted an “initial proposal to the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC)” for setting up a campus in New York City, which will be called IITB-NY.

The initiative to have an IIT campus in New York City was of NYCEDC, initiated in December 2010, seeking a university, institution or consortium to develop and operate a new or expanded campus in NYC.

IIT-Bombay plans to start post-graduate programmes in five disciplines at the proposed campus. A detailed proposal will be submitted by October-end, reports IIT Bombay.
