There's something about Facebook, which makes many in the world want to see its downfall. It may be the success, the social network saw in such a short period, which makes many wish for its downfall.
In march this year, a rumor spread like wild fire, which said, Facebook would shut down on March 15. Now we know, that was just a rumor.
A similar indication to an imminent Facebook demise has surfaced the web again; but this time the pointer can be more than just a rumor. It can be a real threat.
As the threat comes from none other than but the Anonymous.
The famous group of people who thrust their existence and activism by infiltrating the systems of the unsuspecting or the merely complacent users and organizations. But the fact that Anonymous chose the know about its intention ahead of its kill, which is not Anonymous's usual way of functioning, has made many scratch their heads.
An Anonymous press release states quite unequivocally that Facebook is going to get it on November 5. November 5 is the same day, when British people commemorate Guy Fawkes, a man who felt the need to detonate Britain's Houses of Parliament.Guy Fawkes is the same guy, immortalized in the movie "V For Vendetta".
But why is Anonymous desparate to take Facebook down to ground?
To protect the freedom of information. The press release encourages the world to join Anonymous for the sake of their own (world's) privacy.
Anonymous, wants the world to believe that Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world. Some of these so-called white-hat infosec firms are working for authoritarian governments, such as those of Egypt and Syria. And Facebook does all this for money, is the core of Anonymous's message.
Choose Anonymous as your Savior, a decision, people using Facebook will hail in future, is Anonymous's clear message to the world.
