Highest Gross opening for an animated film in the History of India

Not many in India grew up reading Tintin.

But a new movie by multiple Academy Awards winner Hollywood Director Steven Spielberg-Peter Jackson, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, had the highest gross opening for an animated film in the history of India.

The film pocketed in 73.5 million rupees 7.35 crore rupees (about 1.46 million in U.S. dollars) this past weekend, beating Kung Fu Panda 2 by 20 million or 2 crore rupees. Interestingly, this performance is also the highest grossing of any of Spielberg's films in India.

Tintin was competing against the Indian film, Rockstar, starring current heart throb Ranbir Kapoor, which grossed 640 million or 64 crore rupees (12.7 million). Tintin’s numbers when compared to that of Rockstar point that the animation genre is still growing in India. --------
