Google Glasses demoed at Google I/O, Developers can Pr-order for $1500

Google Glasses? Also known as Project Glass, or smart glasses, are eye glasses, which are Google's Attempt to give humans a wearable computers. The glasses come equipped with a camera to take pictures and record videos, and a heads up display, which can be used to show relevant information during day-to-day activities. That apart, the the prototype has variety of sensors (gyroscope, accelerometer, compass).

In the video below, shown at Google I/O 2012, the Project Glass team took product demoing to a new level -- freefalling with Glass.

Google sees the glasses as any other portable device, that'why it hopes that developers will be creating apps specifically designed for Google Glass, as they create for any other device. So that glasses go well with various Android-based products once its launched.

The interesting part is, while Project Glass is not commercially available at this time, Google revealed that developers will be able to pre-order a Google Glasses “Explorer Edition” unit at Google I/O.

Their Glasses will be shipped at some point in early 2013.Much ahead of the public launch. Interestingly, the developer unit will cost $1,500 and it’s meant to help developers come up with new interesting ways to use these virtual reality-based glasses. With possible use in Virtual Reality Based Games.

Availability of Google Glasses for Public: Not earlier than late 2013 or early 2014.
