Apple ipad Mini 2 Launched: Faster, Retina Display, Unfortunately Bulkier

In the Apple event concluded just hours ago, among other exciting announcements, Apple launched the much anticipated Apple tablet, the new 7.9" model, the iPad mini 2. What makes the launch exciting is the Retina display. Yes, iPad Mini 2 has Retina Display.

Apple iPad mini 2 Specs

Apple iPad mini 2 runs iOS 7 (which is the most latest iOS, hence a great news).
A 7.9" screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio but the resolution has quadrupled to 1536 x 2048 pixels and the pixel density has doubled to 324ppi (pixels per inch). Notably since displays are measured diagonally hence, the 7.9 inches iPad Mini 2 display will be nearly twice as bigger than a 7 inch tablet.
iPad Mini 2 is powered by an Apple A7 chipset with ARMv8-based Cyclone cores, a couple of generations ahead of A9. The chipset on iPad mini lagged behind with a lowly dual-core Cortex-A9 processor.
Apple iPad Mini 2 has a regular Home button.
Apple iPad Mini 2 has gained some bulk: It's 0.3mm thicker (7.5mm) and 23g heavier (331g).

just like iPad Air, the iPad Mini 2 too didn't get the much anticipated TouchID sensor.

Starts at $399, more than hundred dollars more than iPad Mini ($339) launched last year. May be this is Apple's way of saving iPad Air (9.7 inch) tablet from being cannibalized by iPad Mini 2. Interestingly, the iPad mini will be kept alive at $299.
