Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Tablet : $700 for this Rugged Hunk?

Samsung took design advice from Fortune 500 Companies in 12 sectors, to create Samsung Galaxy Tab Active water resistant, robust tablet with features every enterprise customer will want.

What type of users want a robust device? The enterprise customers. To lure that target customers, Samsung has opened pre-orders for the new eight-inch Galaxy Tab Active. The Galaxy Tab Active is a rugged, water-resistant slate designed with input from Fortune 500 companies.

The Samsung Tab Active Water proof tablet is now up for pre orders in the US. The World's biggest and most buying eager enterprise market. The Samsung Tab Active tablet, which comes with anti-shock casing and is designed for field-use, has been built with IP67 dust and water resistant certification that Samsung first included in the Galaxy S5. Although the Tab Active tablet's chunky protective casing , which aims at protecting the device against up to 1.2 metres falls, will never have come with that casing, if Samsung were Apple. The Tab has been certified for Citrix and SAP applications with more ISV certifications in the pipeline, according to Samsung.

Both Samsung and Apple are eyeing the massive enterprise market for their tablets. Compared to Samsung, Apple is far less upfront in asking design inputs. may be that will make things different fro Samsung. China manufactured low cost tablets, which have reached a level of decent user experience, have cut on the tablet markets of the two Giants as well.

Only recently, Samsung indicated to a weak quarter due to a slump in smartphone profits.

Galaxy Tab Active Specs and Features

-- Sports an LCD WXGA display offering a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels
-- powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor
-- 1.5GB RAM
-- 16GB inbuilt storage
-- A 3.1 megapixel camera
-- A 4450 mAh removable battery
-- Includes a pogo charging connector
-- Includes Samsung's C-Pen stylus
-- Runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS
-- Obviously, comes with Samsung's Knox security set, which for an additional license fee, offers hardware level encryption and a secure container for work apps.

What Galaxy Tab Active Tablet Lacks ?

The Galaxy Active Tab lacks the fingerprint reader for authentication. Which is a kind of a surprise. But Samsung has designed Tab Active as an entrant to the enterprise market. Notably, Samsung brought across the fingerprint reader for authentication from the Galaxy S5 to the Tab S range — again, aimed at the enterprise.

Availability of Samsung Galaxy Tab Active

The tablet will cost $700. Colour option is one: Black. Samsung expects to ship the device at the end of October.

Is it Easy to accidently drop an iPad? ... Will it survive such a Fall?
iPad Air Fails the Drop Test

Every time I handle an iPad 3, it feels fragile. As if, if accidently dropped it will shatter into pieces. Don't know, whether it's the delicate aesthetics of the iPad is that fragile. That's why I always wanted to know how strong is ipad. Obviously, for a small blogger like me, it's unimaginable to do the drop test.

I believe, many other iPad owners may also feel the same about their Apple tablet.

Apple iPad Air is the latest tablet from Cupertino company.

Apple iPad Air is thinner and lighter, than its predecessors. Is it durable too ?

Richard Ryan who puts products to the durability test” by performing drop tests and firing guns at them on his YouTube channel, RatedRR; performed the same tests on the iPad Air. The shooting test is unnecessary for us, as we're not going to shoot a bullet at our iPads; but sadly ipad Air didn't even survive the drop test. When dropped from the height of few feet, on relatively soft dirt as opposed to a hard concrete floor, the  iPad Air shattered.

How easy it's to accidently drop an iPad ?

Fortunately I never dropped my iPad. But then, I usually don't drop my gadgets. That apart, I find my iPad 3 easy to hold in my left hand. I mean, the design seems to be assisting the secure holding. What do you feel about Apple devices, are they fragile? and how easy it's to accidentally drop them? ---------

Apple ipad Mini 2 Launched: Faster, Retina Display, Unfortunately Bulkier
In the Apple event concluded just hours ago, among other exciting announcements, Apple launched the much anticipated Apple tablet, the new 7.9" model, the iPad mini 2. What makes the launch exciting is the Retina display. Yes, iPad Mini 2 has Retina Display.

Apple iPad mini 2 Specs

  • Apple iPad mini 2 runs iOS 7 (which is the most latest iOS, hence a great news).
  • A 7.9" screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio but the resolution has quadrupled to 1536 x 2048 pixels and the pixel density has doubled to 324ppi (pixels per inch). Notably since displays are measured diagonally hence, the 7.9 inches iPad Mini 2 display will be nearly twice as bigger than a 7 inch tablet.
  • iPad Mini 2 is powered by an Apple A7 chipset with ARMv8-based Cyclone cores, a couple of generations ahead of A9. The chipset on iPad mini lagged behind with a lowly dual-core Cortex-A9 processor.
  • Apple iPad Mini 2 has a regular Home button.
  • Apple iPad Mini 2 has gained some bulk: It's 0.3mm thicker (7.5mm) and 23g heavier (331g).

just like iPad Air, the iPad Mini 2 too didn't get the much anticipated TouchID sensor.

iPad 5 launched: With the Name iPad Air
The much anticipated Apple October 22 event concludes just hours back. Among the products launched was the new 9.7" model, iPad Air (not 5).

Some of the rumors regarding the ipad Air, proved true. Apple iPad Air has an A7 Processor, narrower Bezel (border around the display). Have a look at the Specs below and know the Apple ipad Air better:

  • Has a 9.7" IPS LCD screen with 1536 x 2048 pixels (as before).
  • New and powerful Apple A7 chipset along with the M7 motion co-processor
  • Narrower bezels (43% smaller). Since displays are measured diagonally, hence a narrower bezel means more area for display, and a more display area compared to earlier iPads.
  • Apple iPad Air Tablet is 20% thinner and now measures just 7.5mm, thinner than the iPad 2.
  • Apple iPad Air has gone lighter as well: from 653g to 469g.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 | Not the First Choice for 8 inch Tablet
The review of Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is found to have a few limitations. First is the narrow vertical bezel (borders on left and right of the display). The narrow bezel meant, the user accidently touching the touch display. This is an important pointing, when one notes that Apple tablets, which earlier had broad bezel around the display, are now going towards narrower bezel. A factor which even when looks aesthetically better, makes the device less convenient to hold.

The Tab 3 8.0 doesn't have the name recognition feature of Samsung's Galaxy Note 8.0, but what it does have in its favor is a svelte, lightweight design. At 10.9 ounces (309.1g), it's comfortable to hold one-handed, and at just 0.29 inch (7.36mm) thick, it makes the 0.31-inch Note 8.0 look (and feel) positively bloated. The processor is not particularly great. Watch the video below:

Apple iPad 5 will have No Bezel!
According to rumors, the Apple iPad 5, will have no bezels. This appears unlikely, going by the importance of aesthetics and user experience to Apple. The bezel (the border around the display) may be thin; but it's unlikely that it will be removed completely.

That apart, the Apple iPad 5 is expected to feature the IGZO technology display from Sharp.

Price slashes fuel Apple iPad 5, iPad Mini 2 launch Date
Rumor mills normally rely on pictures, sources and other hints to guess the advent of the next iteration of a popular gadget. There's one other way to guess the launch of an anticipated tech gadget -- The Price slashes of the existing or predecessor version.

The latest buzz regarding the Apple iPad 5 and iPad Mini release date, is being fueled by this second way.

According to some rumors the Apple iPad 5 and next iPad Mini will launch by September. The support to this rumor is lent by recent price reductions by some retailers who stock the iPads.

According to a report, just last week Walmart slashed the price of current iPad models by about $30 (from $329 down to $299), supporting the speculation that the newer models are on the way. Some other reports are saying that Walmart is not restocking its already depleting stock of various models of the device.

Price reductions on the existing stocks of iPad and iPad Mini is a good indication that the next iteration of these devices , Apple iPad 5 and Apple iPad Mini 2, are getting launched soon. Earlier Apple used to dump its existing devices to third world countries, and make space for its new versions. But now, things have changed, as many of these countries are seeing launches more or less simultaneously with the US. ---------

Samsung Flexible Tablet concept does exist!
Samsung and LG are rivals. This becomes evident when both are reported to be busy with their versions of a flexible (bending) display. LG openly showed off 5-inch version of its flexible display at a trade show this week, a leaked picture throws light on what is happening in the Samsung's workshop. The image shows a possible design concept of Samsung’s flexible tablet. See the picture below:

The picture, courtesy MobiLeaks shows a large tablet with a built-in stand. But the built in screen is not some plastic extension. It's part of the tablet’s chassis, and is formed by bending the tablet screen along the length. This in this tablet, all the Settings, photos etc. shortcuts will lie flat on the table surface.

The above image comes with a series of specifications, like:

10.1-inches 1080p AMOLED flexible panel

Powered by Samsung’s eight-core Exynos 5 Octa chip

2GB of RAM

32GB of memory

A 3-megapixel forward facing camera.

The above picture can be the real thing, as Samsung has indeed filed for patents related to flexible displays. That apart, Samsung also revealed a bit about YOUM flexible screen hardware during CES this year. If the reports about LG planning to ship its first batch of flexible displays later this year are true, then Samsung preempting its flexible display plans, look real. Nevertheless, the above picture can still be some artist's rendering as well. ---------

Some saw Acer 8.1-inch Windows 8 Pro Tablet on Amazon!

Acer 8.1-inch Windows 8 Pro Tablet on Amazon. 8 inch tablet form factor may be odd. But it appears Acer and Microsoft are ready for smaller Windows 8 tablets.

Hours ago, many saw Acer 8.1-inch Windows 8 Pro Tablet on Amazon. The Acer Iconia W3 tablet was showing a price tag of $379.99 or $380 on Amazon. May look  a bit expensive to some, but the having Windows 8 Pro is surely an attraction.

Since the news of Acer 8.1-inch Windows 8 Pro Tablet on Amazon spread, Amazon has silently removed the listing.

Acer 8.1-inch Windows 8 Pro Tablet Specs:

1) 8.1-inch CrystalBrite LCD display with a 1280 x 800 resolution

2) weighs 1.1 pounds or around 460 grams.

3) Powered by a dual-core Atom Z2760 SoC from Intel (making Windows 8 Pro as the Windows platform of choice and, not Windows RT)

4) Integrated graphics with 64 MB of memory

5) 32 GB of internal storage

6) 2 GB of RAM

7) Connectivity Options include Wireless-N networking connectivity

8) A 2MP camera on the front and a 2MP camera on the back (this is funny)

9) A two-cell 3500 mAh battery, claining up to eight hours of continuous use on a single charge.

Why the price may be a bit high at this time: Currently the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD starts at $269 USD, the 7.9-inch iPad mini starts at $329 USD, and the 7-inch Nexus 7 starts at $199 USD. ---------
