With its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models, Apple brought a new feature, called Live Photos.
By default, the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models came with the Live Photos feature enabled in the native camera app.
Said in simple, Live Photos ,which shows as three concentric rings icon on the top middle of the home screen (and can be disabled easily if one wishes to); gets enabled every time you click a photo; and a 1.5 seconds of video is shot both before and after the still image.
This results in a total of three seconds of video footage captured in addition to the still image.
While viewing the image (by a long press which makes use of 3D feature), you will see the image with the three seconds of video footage, complete with sound.
The latest iOS 9.1 includes an update for Live Photos, which now senses when the iPhone is raised or lowered to refrain from recording unnecessary movements.
That said, App developers outside the Apple fold are trying to make a better use of Live Photos Feature.
The idea is to connect the feature to GIF virtue. GIF images are images which are meant for easy sharing online. This was the basic idea when the image format came nearly 30 years ago.
GIF image format is best suited for sharing images online and by other means, owing to its very low file size, compared to other image formats.

Giffage GIF Keyboard App on iOS for more effective Social Sharing
Giffage has announced the official release of its iOS keyboard app, which allows users to find GIFs to share in text messages and emails, or create their own GIFs to share.
The Giffage iOS Keyboard App can be found Here; and is compatible with iOS 8.0 and above.
The app functions as both a standalone app, as well as a third-party keyboard, once users activate the keyboard in their device settings.
Users can create new GIFs by recording short video clips within the app. Just for the sake of information, the animated icons you see one many websites are in GIF format; which means that GIF supports animation.
To enrich the choice or to make up for the lack of images, the users can browse and search for GIFs from Giphy’s large library of content.
Users can also browse trending GIFs.
Users can also browse GIF categories like ‘memes, etc.’.
Users can also search for GIFs based on keywords.
Single tap to view it in its full size, and double-tap a button to copy the GIF.
The copied image can then be conveniently pasted to any test update, email and sharings on other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, WhatsApp, Notes. No LinkedIn though.
Users can favorite a GIF for future as well.
There are customization features for GIFs too.
NOTE: When the Giffage keyboard is used standalone then users have access to a search bar for finding GIFs to copy and paste into messages, without using the Giffage app itself. One can favorite GIF here as well, by tapping and holding on them as they search within the keyboard.
