A Twitter account belonging to Fox News started posting fake "Obama assassinated" stories a couple of hours ago. As the account was the one maintained by Fox News, the tweets went viral within seconds of appearing on Twitter.
The tweets posted within a short time, from @foxnewspolitics account, shared that Obama was shot and killed while supposedly campaigning at a Ross' restaurant in Iowa. One of the tweets is shown below:
It has been suspected that said account, which has more than 33,000 followers, was compromised (nature of the compromise is not known yet); and the false tweets may be an attempt to trick surfers into visiting “links for more information” that actually land on sites running fake anti-virus scans. ---------
