US Presence on Social networks 2011
Social networking among American adults has nearly doubled in less than three years, and Facebook is having the bear share of the market. Recent numbers from the Pew Internet and American Life Project, suggest so.

According to Pew, nearly half of all U.S. adults — 47 percent — are engaged in social networking on at least one platform. Back in 2008, this was 26 percent.

92 percent of adults who use social networks are on Facebook. MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter are next attractions with 29 percent, 18 percent and 13 percent, respectively.

And finally the metric which experts consider most important, i.e. the ‘engagement’. Of all US Facebook users, 52 percent use the site every day. ---------

Facebook tests Twitter like real-time update feature
Facebook on Friday said that it’s working on a Twitter-like feature that alerts a Facebook user in real time to what his/her friends are up to on the social network.

Facebook’s Twitter like feature is reportedly called "Happening Now" and is already been open to a section of Facebook’s more than 600 million members.

"We are currently testing a feature within News Feed that gives people the ability to see what their friends are commenting on and 'liking,' as these actions are being taken on Facebook," said the California company in an email reply to an AFP inquiry.

Facebook plans to keep making improvements and may expand it to more people, in coming weeks. ---------
