Type and frequency of Gaming affects us : A study

According to a Reuters news quoting a study, the frequency and the type of video games played impacts the emotional, mental, social and behavioral health of the player.

Below are the key details of the study and the findings:

In the study the researchers examined the frequency and type of video game played; and Internet use of 500 female and 313 male undergraduate college students in the United States, in previous last 12 months.

Findings:

---The study found complete gender differences in video game and Internet use.

--Compared with young women, young men reported video gaming three times as often.

-- Compared with young women, the men reported playing violent video games nearly eight times as often.
--Men were more likely to use the Internet for entertainment, daily headline news, and pornography, while women more often used the Internet for email and schoolwork.


--Regardless of gender, clear links were seen between frequent gaming and more frequent alcohol and drug use.

-- Regardless of gender, frequent gaming also meant lower quality of personal relationships.

-- Regardless of gender, more frequent violent gaming meant a greater number of sexual partners and low quality personal relationships.

-- The study found that the online activities like chat rooms, shopping, entertainment, and pornography resulted in above mentioned negative outcomes.

       But when used for activities like using internet for schoolwork, the usage resulted in positive outcomes.
