According to Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI), the numbers for the GSM segment for the country till February, 2009 are as under:
Total GSM subscriber base in the country :_____________277.16 million or 27.72 crore
Total GSM subscriber base in the country till January, 2009: _267.54 million or 26.75 crore
Growth in one month:________________________________________ 3.6 percent
The operators (excluding Reliance Telecom) added 9.2 million or 92 Lakh GSM subscribers in the country in the month of February, 2009
Operator wise standings by February 2009:
Bharti Airtel:_____________________________________91.11 millions or 9.11 crore
Vodafone-Essar:__________________________________ 65.93 million or 6.59 crore
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL):__________________44.18 million or 4.42 crore
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) (operates in Delhi and Mumbai only):__4.08 million or 40.8 Lakh
Idea Cellular (along with Spice Communications):_______ 41.5 million or 4.15 crore
