End of Microsoft Office 2000; Office 2010 under testing

Microsoft will stop security updates for Office 2000 on July 2009.


It will also dump the Office Update site around the same time(1 August 2009).Users will now be redirected the newer Microsoft Update site starting Aug. 1.

The basic idea being: the company wants 2000 users to move on to a newer suite.

In addition, Office Inventory Tool(an enterprise management tool that lets IT administrators check Office 2000, Office XP, and Office 2003 patch status on machines remotely.) will also cease operations, and admisinitors are advised to move on to Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).


Interesting facts:

launched in June 1999; Microsoft delivered support for Office 2000 for a period of ten years.

Microsoft currently working on Office 2010(shipping dates not finalised yet) will commence select testing in July this year. --------
