A deal has been signed between the EU and ten phone makers to work towards a universal charger (one charger for all makes), The ten phone makers which include Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Apple, Motorola, Research in Motion and Samsung; account for 90% of the European mobile market.
Although the deal is not legally binding on the participating parties; it means a universal charger, making use of a micro USB connection, will become available by next year.
The charger will work for -enabled mobile phones that support USB data exchange.
