Americans prefer texting to Talking: 2009 Report

A new study by CTIA, shows that cell phones are increasingly being used not for talking but primarily for sending texts.

In the first half of 2009, American cell phone users sent a whopping 740 billion text messages.
That makes for:
--4.1 billion texts a day.

--17 texts a person with a text-capable handset.

The text messages sent in first half of 2009 (740 billion) is almost double the number sent during the first half of 2008.

But interestingly, as the texting has seen a growth, voice conversations have gone down.

The length of an average call in 2007 was 3.13 mins. This has gone down to 2.03 minutes in 2009. This is the lowest level reported by CTIA. --------
