Ways in which Apple’s foray into e-book market can give fight to Amazon

Apple which has met with publishers in New York recently, ahead of the next week tablet launch, is planning to venture into the ebook market. Owing to two factors it seems that it can give a fight to Amazon:

1) Amazon’s attempt to attract self publishing authors by giving them a 70 percent royalty on ebook sales can hit a stumbling block for one reason. The offer is for e-books that are priced in between $2.99 and $9.99.This price band can deter some publishers. As it’s ok for ordinary selling books to sell between 2 and 10 dollars; but what about best sellers. Putting a $9.99 ceiling will underprice the best sellers, whose e-version normally sell much above that. Apple, on the contrary. If ventures into ebook market is expected to sell some titles between $14.99 and $19.99. The reason for this is the enhancements Apple will give to these e-books, but it is safe to assume that they will include best selling authors.

2) Based on the Apple’s talks with the major publishers, Apple will also be providing ebooks enhanced with video, author interviews and social-networking applications. Amazon's Kindle e-book reader lacks the color and video capabilities necessary for these enhanced ebooks. --------
