Radiation emission levels of 27 new and popular smartphones

Before sharing with you the radiation emission levels of 27 new and popular smartphones ,let I clarify that there is no conclusive evidence regarding the good or bad effects of the electromagnetic radiations emitted by a mobile handset. Still paying no heed to the inclusive situation; majority of people do consider mobile handset radiations to be bad for health.

That said, it’s important to inform you that, no matter what perception one holds, there’s no quick way for a user of finding the amount of radiation emitted by a particular mobile handset.

Why?

As at present, Makers and vendors in most countries aren’t required to disclose their products’ radiation output at point of sale.

So when we talk of mobile radiation, one has to depend on the studies of numerous groups which work in the field of health and environment, plus the radiation standards set by different countries in the interest of citizen health and country’s environment.

For instance, In the USA, the FCC has set a SAR* limit (a measurement of mobile handset radiation effect on human health) of 1.6 W/kg (averaged over a volume of 1 gram of tissue, for the head); In Europe, the limit is 2 W/kg, averaged over a volume of 10 grams of tissue.

So if one wishes to decide on the radiation levels of a phone, one has to compare the number mentioned by a study with the number set as a limit by the country one resides in. In the absence of the availability of a standard set, one can compare the emission mentioned with that of US; and if one want to be more stringent in his/her approach then compare with that of Europe.

*SAR-- Part of the radio waves emitted by a mobile telephone handset are absorbed by the human head. The rate at which radiation is absorbed by the human body is measured by the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) averaged over a specific volume of head of tissue; and its maximum levels for modern handsets have been set by governmental regulating agencies in different countries. --------
