Expect some LiMo phones later this year

Amidst loss of market share in the past one year(owing to nothing happening on the new offering front); 7 percent in the first quarter of 2009 compared to 3.7 percent in the first quarter of 2010; things are looking good for Linux mobile operating system( or Wireless Linux group LiMo) this year.

According to LiMo executive Director speaking at the Reuters Global Technology Summit, LiMo expects three major operators (Telefonica, Verizon or SK Telecom) to offer handsets using its platform by the end of this year, to compete with rivals Google and Apple.

So far only Vodafone has launched a Linux-based operating system model in Europe, while 60 handsets were launched using the platform, mostly in Japan and South-Korea. --------
