According to Google chief executive Eric Schmidt, at least 65,000 mobile phones powered by Google's Android operating system are being shipped every day. (Adding that while it's true that they're giving away Android, the applications and the services to a very large variety of users, very broad framework can be enormously valuable over the next five or 10 years.)
This means 23,725,000 units (or 23.7 million) are being sold in an year of 365 days. As a quarter has three months, 5.9 million android phones in a quarter.
Apple has reported that it has sold 8.5 million in the first quarter of 2010.
