It’s a common knowledge that the really big and popular websites have tons of visitors. But how many? This question pops up particularly in the minds of those who blog and want to find riches through their blogs.
So, How many visitors(unique visitors) does a blog or website need to reach the top?
A while back Google released a list of the 1,000 most-visited websites on the Internet, including estimates of how many worldwide visitors those websites have each month. Pingdom, used the list to get us the answer:
Number of visitors per month your blog/website needs to be in top 1000 websites of the world is: 4.1 million
Going further, if you want a more elevated position for your blog/website, then consider these:
• To become a top 500 website you need at least 7.4 million visitors per month.
• To become a top 100 website you need at least 22 million visitors per month.
• To become a top 50 website you need at least 41 million visitors per month.
• To become a top 10 website you need at least 230 million visitors per month. (most Google properties are positioned here)
• To become the number 1 website in the world? Then you need more than 540 million visitors per month. (Facebook commands that much visits)
Some interesting information regarding the traffic distribution among top websites:
• The top 10 websites get 42% of the visitors to the top 100, and 21% of the visitors to the top 1,000.
Thus top ten websites get 4 out of every ten visitors of top 100 sites; extending the comparison to top 1000 sites, then 2 out of every 10 visitors of top 1000 sites visit the top ten.
• The top 100 gets 50% of the visitors to the top 1,000. I.e. the top 100 together get as many visitors as the following 900 websites counted together.
Summary:
To be in the Top 1000 websites of the world you’ll need 4.1 unique visitors per month.
To be in Top 100, the number goes up to 22 million visitors per month.
