If you buy books from Barnes & Nobles and use Apple’s iPad, iPhone or iPod to read them, then you can can accomplish the task even better now.
As Barnes & Noble has updated its Nook e-reader software for the Apple iPhone, iPod and iPad (you can download the app from here).
The application will be an update to a previous app and it has been re-branded under the “Nook” label.
The 2.2 version of the Nook app adds full Apple iPad support and uses the window-shopping space well. In addition, the app allows a reader to tailor the way the content looks and this includes adjustable font sizes, colors and more.
Apple iPhone owners will also be able to read a variety of digital e-books with the Barnes & Noble app, as well as purchase new ones online. Other useful features are the ability to highlight passages and bookmark. One important feature absent is: ability of side-loading of Fictionwise e-books.
With the application for ipad, iPhone and iPod, B&N has realized that its future like that of Amazon(which already has applications for the Apple iPhone, iPad, Android and BlackBerry; though its e-reader Kindle line has a strong brand recognition) lies in electronic distribution of books. So it’s best to have relevant applications for book distribution in devices making rends or are more portable.
Barnes & Noble introduced its eReader software for the iPhone and PC in July 2009, several months before the debut of its Nook e-reading device. So updating an application on a device one has no control over, when B&N sells its own reading device; makes the update so special.
Apple who appears in an envious position at present; as world is flocking over to it; is even stepping into this market by selling iBooks as part of iOS 4.
