Twitter has unveiled its New Self, the new Twitter.com. In Twitter's own words, the new twitter is all about, "speed, responsiveness and discovery".It's heartening to find that the micro-blogging platform has not strayed away from its micro nature. In addition, the new twitter appears more to the visual side.
Added information for user without defying the micro-blogging nature of the Twitter
All the @mentions, retweets, searches, and will appear just above your timeline(the tweets from a user, those he follows and the retweets ) – creating a single, streamlined view on the left of the screen.
The right sidebar has features twitter users are already familiar with like favorites, and Trending Topics; including information about who the user recently followed and who recently followed him/her.
View photos, videos, and other media content directly by clicking on tweets
Now, it’s easy to see embedded photos and videos directly. This became possible because of partnerships with Dailybooth, DeviantArt, Etsy, Flickr, Justin.TV, Kickstarter, Kiva, Photozou, Plixi, Twitgoo, TwitPic, Twitvid, USTREAM, Vimeo, Yfrog, and YouTube.
Easy content discovery plus enhanced Geo-tagging (a move towards Location Based Services)
When you click a Tweet (or hover), the details pane shows additional information related to the author or subject. Depending on the Tweet’s content, you may see: @replies, other Tweets by that same user, a map of where a geotagged Tweet was sent from, and more.
The new changes will be rolled out as a preview over the next several weeks. A users will be able to switch back and forth to the new and the old. After this phase, everyone will have the updated version of Twitter.com.
