Its truly obvious that sites offering daily deals and coupons are very popular right now after Groupon filing for its IPO yesterday.
Now, Amazon too has jumped into this market by offering a service called Amazon Local which features special deals from LivingSocial, which happens to be Groupon biggest competitor.
Amazon has invested in LivingSocial and is currently offering this service only in Boise, Idaho at the moment. But they are planning to expand this service to other cities too in the future.
Amazon's strategy is to provide deals from other providers as well via LivingSocial rather than just offering its own version of Groupon clone.
Amazon Local saves the deals purchased by customers in their Your Deals section, and by the end of the year, users can roughly earn five points for each dollar they spend at Amazon Local with the Amazon.com Rewards Visa Card. After that those customers will be able to earn 3 points on each deal.
