If you always suspected the potential of blogging as a profession; OR doubted ‘any blog started by a single guy’ reach valuations worth millions; then after Huffington post, which AOL acquired last year for big money, it’s now Mashable’s turn to get acquired.
According to a source close to the deliberations, CNN is in talks to buy social media news site Mashable for more than $200 million. The deal could be finalized as soon as tomorrow.
Mashable (Mashable Inc.) is an American news website and Internet news blog founded by Pete Cashmore. The website's primary focus is social media news, but also covers news and developments in mobile, entertainment, online video, business, web development, technology, memes and gadgets. Mashable was launched by Pete Cashmore from his home in Aberdeen, Scotland in July 2005; has come a long way, and is regarded as one of the best business blogs online.
Like other mainstream news outlets CNN, which is owned by Time Warner Inc, has been trying to evolve its business to compete more effectively in the Web-based social media age. Last August CNN bought Zite, a news application for the iPad, designed to give users a personalized magazine-like experience.
Blogging can be tough and challenging, but not for those who know how to. Like any other profession, it needs smart people.
