6 Tips to save yourself from Embarrassment on Twitter

Firstly, Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Secondly, a person becomes adorable/likable for reasons more than the physical beauty -- that is the way he/she talks,presents and behaves. That said, calling someone not adorable and that too in an undignified manner is completely unacceptable in any civilized society. And web is no exception. In some respects, Web is even more humane and civilized than the real world.

The satirical newspaper, The Onion, may be aware of this basic manner; but it may have acted in the spur of the moment or occasion. Commenting on how the Hollywood celebrities were adoring the 9 year old actress of "Beasts of the Southern Wild" movie during Sunday night’s Academy awards; the Onion tweeted:

"Everyone else seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhane Wallis is kind of a [C-word], right?"

And Instantly, the satirical website started receiving hate mails, roundly criticizing its use of what is arguably the most hateful word against a female. And with these started the unending flow of Tweets making Onion, a laughing stock.

An hour later, the tweet was deleted. And the next day, The Onion apologized in a posting from its chief executive officer.

What happened to 'The Onion', keeps happening to influential voices on Twitter. And this is the consequence of tweeting or posting without thinking. Actor Alec Baldwin only recently got a severe backlash for tweeting about the "repressed sexual energy" of Mormons. Ordinary Joes are not saved from this backlash either. Many people have lost their jobs, relationships and friendships for tweeting something inappropriate, either out of absent-mindedness or indiscretion.

So how to save yourself from the negative consequences of Twitter or Tweeting? Below are they.

Below is the List of things your should consider while tweeting or posting on a social network (Facebook, Twitter etc.); so that you don't regret what you said later.

1) Think before you tweet: Actually this applies to every single time you leave your imprint on the Web. That's every time you write a blog post, make a comment, update social network profile or Tweet. Just Think for a minute before pressing the Publish, Update, Send or Tweet button. This is because once you Publish, Update, Send or Tweet something on Web; it remains there for ever, even when you delete it later. And since it remains there for the ever; hence it can retrieved anytime, even years after you have changed the job, moved on.

2) Make it appropriate for everyone: You may want your message, article, tweet to be read by the world (anyone); but it's wise to make it appropriate for everyone. Although it may appear difficult, it's not impossible. As a rule of thumb: You don't need to use profanities, show bigotry or shout, to make a strong statement  You can always do so in a safe manner.

3) Extra Care must for Professional Accounts: One of the main reasons why employees lose their jobs for posting something indecent or offensive, is that in most cases they do so from Professional accounts or Company's accounts. Since a Company or Brand has a perpetual existence, which outlives the owners and employees, hence any conduct which brings bad name to the company or brand is never tolerated. If you have two separate Twitter or Facebook accounts, one for business and one personal, OR if you post from the Company's accounts as part of your job profile; then be absolutely certain which one you’re posting from.Check twice before pressing the button.

4) Decency is a virtue: Although everyone should be double vigilant while posting from the Company, Professional Twitter, Facebook Accounts; still, decency on personal accounts is also a virtue. The reason is again the perpetual nature of your web imprint. That's any inappropriate thing about your previous boss, ex girlfriend or anyone else; can make one less recruit-able, and tarnish social status.

Hence when you’re posting or tweeting from your business account or your personal accounts, keep it professional/civilized and positive.

5) Don’t get personal: People often feel that, the cloak of anonymity on web gives them the license to get personal or insult others. This is not true. And one should never try to insult or hate on others in his/her tweets and posts. The Internet is flooded with negativity, and if one personally degrade others, he/she opens himself/herself to such degradation as well. Name-calling, in other words, never works, unless you are a publicity hungry Celebrity.

6) Extra caution before sharing pictures: Pictures speak more than the words. So think twice before sharing them. --------
