Vonage has launched its Extensions app for free long-distance calling for Android.

Thus from now on you can make long distance calls via your Android phone.

To use the new app, the user has just to download the app, and login to their existing Vonage VoIP service from a Google-android powered phone.

A good thing for those who have to call their loved ones outside their putting up country, as the app definitely saves them much money. But there’s a catch here. The app requires a VoIP international calling plan before a user starts calling abroad (it’s no obstacle ride, if the caller is an existing voyage user). In addition, the pricing of a call is subject to user’s existing calling plan. Plus it doesn't support messaging like Fring and Viber.

Vonage launches Android app to save you money on international calling

Today, Skype released a new version of its OS X client – the Skype 5.2. The new version introduced group screen sharing. The group video calling, has been available since the Skype 5.0 beta for Mac.

Unfortunately though, both the features will be available to Skype Premium subscribers only.

But there are some worth mentioning improvements for non-Premium users on version 5.1 as well. First of all many bugs of the previous version have been fixed, which include frequent trouble with landline calls and some freezing issues. There are noticeable changes to UI as well, like the ability to completely hide the sidebar menu to make it easier to focus on a single conversation, new pop out video controls in a small hovering window when working on other applications.

Overall the changes incorporated in the new version will be for heavy Skype users and Premium subscribers who use group calling for meetings and virtual conferences. ---------

The latest update to Skype has brought Skype Video chat to Android. This includes one-to-one video chat. The latest version of Skype’s app allows users to make free video calls between their phones and Skype contacts on some Skype-enabled device.

In addition, the update brings Easy contact navigation and a new “mood message box” at the top portion of the app; making it easy to update status.

Skype is available to android users since late last year; but it was devoid of video chat.

After being shown the door last year, for offering functionality similar to some of the iPhone's own; Google’s Voice app has been approved by Apple this time. Notably, Apple rejecting Google’s app last year, didn’t go down well with US authorities too; who advised Apple not to abuse its position as gatekeeper to the App Store.

What Google Voice App for iPhone offers?

Some fresh unified communications functionality, such as a single Google Voice number for multiple phone accounts, transcription of voice messages, and cheap international calls (Skype-style).

In addition , the app provides some features aimed at enhanced user-experience: like push notifications, instant alerts on receiving new voicemails or text messages, Most calls being placed via Direct Access Numbers for them to connect just as quickly as regular phone calls.
