Koobface Worm Threatens Twitter Users

By Mani Raj

The notorious Koobface worm which has infected Facebook users in the past, is now targeting Twitter users.

The new variants of the Koobface worm are sending Twitter spam whenever an infected user logs on to Twitter. In response to this Twitter has now started suspending the accounts which are involved in sending such spam.

Users whose accounts get suspended are informed by Twitter via e-mail about what happened and tips on how to remove the Koobface worm from their computer systems.

The tweets look like this:- "My home video :)" and a link.

The link leads you to a fake YouTube page where it says that you need to upgrade Flash to watch the video. When users click yes, it starts installing several .Exe files on their systems. These are Koobface and some other malicious programs.

WARNING:- Do not click on such links.

Although Twitter is working hard to get rid of this worm but there are still some tweets circulating in the Twittersphere. So be careful.
