First a Definition,
The term cloud is figuratively used for the Internet. Cloud computing services often provide common business applications online that are accessed from the user’s PC, via a web browser, while the software and data are stored on the servers(or third party servers).Example Gmail.
According to a bi-yearly survey conducted by network security consulting firm Unisys, Americans don't trust cloud storage for their confidential data, with identity theft ranking as their top security concern.
Other important findings of the study:
--When asked what they felt about personal data being stored on third-parties' remote computers, 64% said they don't want their data kept by a third party. The rest either don’t use internet, or are more open to new concepts.
--Among all fears, Misuse of personal information topped the list, followed by by fear of someone stealing credit card information, which was at par with concerns about national security and fighting terrorism.
Misuse of personal information—65 percent
Fear of someone stealing credit card information—64 percent
Concerns about national security and fighting terrorism—64 percent
--The survey found that although Americans are concerned about the above four areas of security, they are not overwhelmed by them. In a scale of 1 to 300, with 300 being extremely concerned, national security was the biggest worry with a Security Index number of 162.
National security—162
Financial security—156
Personal security—143
Internet security-- 129
But over the years the American people’s trust on web being capable of keeping their financial data safe has decreased. In the survey conducted in the fall of 2007, financial security was number 3, in the following surveys either number 1 or 2.
--Around 25 percent of Americans have no concerns about computer viruses and spam, but 42% are very concerned about them.
--The people who make most money, are also the ones who are more open to new things, the same is reflected in the survey findings. Americans making the most money have the least concern about financial obligations (36%) and online transactions (38%).
--College graduates as expected are also less worried. The percentage of College grads, who are extremely concerned about national security and identity theft, is lower than those who didn't graduate from college.
