Nokia starts a cheap smartphone phone line with C5 model

Nokia unveiled a new C5 smartphone model on Tuesday. The C5 smartphone will be one of the cheapest smartphones from Nokia; and will sell for 135 euros ($183), excluding taxes and subsidies. The phone will hit the shelves next quarter (Apr-Jun 2010).

C5 specifications:


1) Symbian S60v3 FP2 OS
Advantage: The phone operates Symbian S60 3rd edition, which means that a large number of applications will be readily available to users as soon as the phone is available.

2) 3.2MP camera

3) HSDPA / HSUPA

HSDPA means the phone will support enhanced 3G connectivity. Also called 3.5G, 3G+ or turbo 3G; the enhanced 3G connectivity is the connectivity, which the world is either improving after adoption; or adopting. High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) allows higher data transfer speeds and capacity. Current HSDPA deployments allow download speeds in the range of 1.8, 3.6, 7.2 and 14.0 Mbps

HSUPA (High-Speed Uplink Packet Access) is a 3G technology, which ensures seamless uploads. At present it allows for upload speeds up to 5.76 Mbps.

5) 50MB internal memory

7) A 2-GB memory card

8) GPS / A-GPS

9) 3.5MM audio jack

10) FM Radio

What C5 lacks:


1) A touchscreen

2) A qwerty keyboard (Qwerty keyboard: A PC like keyboard)

[Both are contrary to Nokia’s earlier claims. Nokia has earlier said that in 2010 almost all of its smartphones would have a touch screen, a full keyboard or both]

How Nokia projected the phone as:


The company is promoting the social networking and sharing features of the phone, specifically mentioning that Facebook and MySpace status updates and favorite contacts will be easily visible on the handset's phonebook.
C5 will be shipped with Ovi Maps 3.4, which includes free lifetime navigation features. E-mail and instant messaging are also available. --------
