HTC has confirmed that it’s switching away from Samsung AMOLED screen for many of its phones. Devices with a 3.7-inch screen, such as the Desire and Nexus One, are switching to a Sony Super LCD instead. According to HTC Sony's design in Super LCD gives "comparable visual experience" and actually improves in areas where AMOLED normally wins, such as battery life.
Super LCD is considered high quality among LCDs and has both wide viewing angles and about five times better power management than earlier generation displays.
HTC also acknowledged a habitual problem of oversaturated color on the Samsung AMOLED displays by noting the new screens have "natural balanced color." Some phones will still use AMOLED.
