According to IDG news, European regulators are looking closely at Intel's planned McAfee acquisition and may hold up the deal with an investigation.
Why is EU concerned:
The European Union is concerned about Intel's plans to embed security features directly into its microprocessors. Intel supplies the bulk of the world's PC chips, and the EU is concerned that if McAfee has "privileged access" to the security features it could put other security vendors at an unfair disadvantage.
Are Concerns Real:
So EU is concerned that this will raise the monopolistic situation, similar to what Microsoft’s Internet Explorer created, when Microsoft started bundled it in its Windows Operating System. As 9 out of ten machines in this world run Windows OS, a free Internet browser, ended the quest of another brower for 9 out of ten people.
