Is Google Android US market dominance too fragmented?

First some facts:
Android is on its way to dominate the U.S. smartphone market, for the first time in history, in the first quarter of 2010, Android phones have sold more phones than Apple iphone, making it second in the US smartphone market, after RIM, numbers courtesy NDP Research.
Android phones are already available on all major cellular carriers in the U.S.
Android devices carry a variety of devices that range from entry-level to high-end.

Now some concerns:

But there’s one concern, Google androids market is very non-uniform at present. There are too many versions of the Android operating system out there and that’s become a major headache both for developers and users. And this gives some realistic ground to Apple iphone’s recent argument dismissing the Android phone sales surpassing iPhones in first quarter.
