India’s fastest growing mobile phones brand, the Karbonn Mobiles, will soon partner with Sri Lankan company PC House PLC (PCH) to market mobile phones in the island nation.
The company said Sri Lanka's mobile subscribers grew to 15.86 million in the second quarter of 2010 up from 11.49 million a year earlier. A 38 percent growth in 2010 compared to 2009.
The Sri Lankan mobile market is growing at around 20% to 25% annually. There is a room for Indian copycat brands who offer the design and feel of the big brands within a price range of Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 14,000.
What is popular: According to PCH, while basic and less featured phones with dual SIM options have been popularized in Sri Lanka in recent times, there’s a huge customer demand for dual SIM phones backed by a proper warranty.
If one looks at per capita income of SriLanka and internet reach, affordable smartphones will have a market there too.
