According to NDP data, in mid-December, the numbers for Sony and Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5
were already looking bad in the U.S. At the time, Sony claimed shipments to retailers of around 1.25 million units, compared to 5+ million units worldwide. According to Gamasutra, total sell-through of the game hit 1.14 million units by the end of December. More than half of those units, however, were pre-order and release day sales of 579,500 sold from November 24th-27th.
By contrast, only 560,500 copies were moved in the entire December reporting period (which, in this case, ran from November 28th to January 1st).
Notably, the franchise has typically sold well outside of the U.S. --------
