Along with India, Groupon, the Chicago-based operator of websites for organizing group actions, has expanded itself to two more countries, Israel and South Africa. Groupon is backed by Accel Partners, Battery Ventures LP and New Enterprise Associates Inc.
How Groupon works:
Groupon negotiates unprecedented discounts with popular businesses in a city, and shares them with subscribers via free daily emails. Much like Indian Deals site BuzzinTown does. Only difference being Groupon has many additional features than BuzzinTown and it rolls out daily deals for thousands of cities around the world.
The deals are activated only when a minimum number of people agree to buy, encouraging subscribers to share the promotion with family and friends. By guaranteeing a large number of new customers, Groupon has created a powerful new marketing vehicle for local merchants in thousands of cities worldwide.
About SoSasta.com
In just three months since launch, SoSasta has grown to run daily deals in 11 Indian cities. Serving Tel Aviv and surrounding cities since March 2010.
